Max Payne is back: developers have revealed what the remake of the cult games will be like

In April 2022, it became known that the Remedy studio is developing remakes of the first two Max Payne games. They are also the original authors of the games.

In an interview ahead of the release of Alan Wake 2, screenwriter Sam Lake, who lent his appearance to Max Payne, touched on the topic of the long-awaited remakes. According to him, it's a massive project that combines two games and requires a lot of effort and time for development

"Even when it comes to old games, just thinking about bringing them up to modern standards and merging them into a single entity, you can understand that it's a big, big project," Sam Lake explained."

As part of the announcement in spring 2022, Remedy mentioned that both remakes will be released in a single bundle. Now, it seems that Max Payne 1 and 2 will be merged into a single game.

The writer was also asked if the main character will be modeled after him, as it was in the original installments. To this question, Lake evaded an answer but noted that one would have to wait for the project's release to get the desired answer.

It is known that the remake(s) are being developed for PC and current-generation consoles, but unfortunately, there is no release date yet. The development is being overseen by Rockstar Games, which owns the rights to the Max Payne franchise.

In addition to the remakes of the first two parts of Max Payne, Remedy is also working on a sequel to Control, a multiplayer spin-off of Control, and a multiplayer game-service called Vanguard.
